They reduce recoil and bring gunshot noise down to tolerable levels - levels where you can still hear game approaching while saving your ears. For hunters in the field, that's huge. New Jersey banned them anyway, because apparently constitutional rights aren't a concern when you're trying to score points with the anti-gun crowd.
But here's the good news: the fight back just got stronger. Safari Club International - a major hunting organization - just joined the lawsuit challenging New Jersey's suppressor ban alongside other Second Amendment groups. They're arguing the ban violates the Second Amendment by prohibiting arms in common use. There's over six million suppressors registered in this country, folks. That's not some niche product - that's common use.
Their filing makes a key point I love: a suppressor is part of the firearm. If you can ban one component, where does it stop? Are they going to ban scopes next? Magazines? This slippery slope argument matters because it's exactly how gun grabbers operate - one piece at a time until you've got nothing left.
SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin put it perfectly: "The constitutional right to bear arms is inseparable from the right to hunt." While the Second Amendment isn't technically about hunting, they can make that argument to the public, and honestly, it helps our cause. Not everyone understands the self-defense angle, but a lot of folks get hunting.
This is exactly the kind of coalition we need. Sportsmen and women, gun rights activists, everyone working together. The more voices in court, the better our chances of beating back this nonsense.
