Oregon Hero Exposes the Hypocrisy of 'Gun-Free' Zones

October 22, 2026

A concealed carry permit holder stopped what could have been an even bigger tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon. Three children and a teacher were killed before this armed citizen heroically intervened, but here's what the anti-gun crowd doesn't want you talking about: he had to break the law to save those lives.

Schools in Oregon operate as "gun-free zones" — policies the very same groups demanding more gun control want enforced with zero exceptions. But this hero didn't wait for police while kids were being murdered. He did what the law forbade him from doing, and because of that, more children are alive today.

The reaction from Everytown and their Moms Demand Action puppets was predictable: immediate calls for more gun control, zero acknowledgment that their precious "common sense" policies came within minutes of producing an even worse bloodbath. Senator Mark Kelly and Gabrielle Giffords were quick to tweet about "extremists blocking lifesaving laws" — never mind that the only thing that saved lives was someone violating the policies they champion.

Here's the uncomfortable truth nobody in the gun control movement will address: the shooter was 16 years old. Under Oregon law, he wasn't even allowed to possess that shotgun. Laws didn't stop him. But an armed citizen did.

The real kicker? Even Governor Tina Kotek, an Everytown-supported candidate, had to quietly acknowledge the hero's actions while studiously avoiding the fact that his heroism technically made him a criminal under the very policies her allies push.

These "gun-free zone" policies don't disarm killers — they just make sure the only people with guns are the ones who don't care about the law. Meanwhile, law-abiding citizens like this hero face prosecution for trying to protect innocents.

If you're a policyholder holder or thinking about getting your concealed carry permit, this story should tell you something: when seconds count, the police are minutes away. And sometimes, doing the right thing means being willing to break the rules that disarm victims.
