Senate Bill S9005C — which the media is calling the "Glock ban" — targets semiautomatic handguns with what they call a "cruciform trigger bar." In plain English? This bill effectively bans nearly every Glock pistol on the market, plus plenty of other popular handguns that have similar designs. Because heaven forbid New Yorkers have access to the most popular self-defense firearms in America.
But here's what really gets me: they're banning these guns not because they're machine guns or assault weapons — they're legal, semi-auto handguns — but because someone could illegally modify them. That's like banning cars because someone might remove the speed limiter. The devices needed to make these modifications are already illegal under federal law and New York law. So what's the real goal here? It's simple: they want to make it harder for ordinary, peaceable people to defend themselves.
The Firearms Policy Coalition, joined by the NRA, Second Amendment Foundation, and a small business called The Firing Pin, filed a federal lawsuit on August 13th in the Western District of New York. They're calling it The Firing Pin v. James, and they're asking the court to declare this law unconstitutional and block its enforcement. This is exactly the kind of fight we need.
FPC President Brandon Combs put it perfectly: "Tyrants in New York have joined California and Maryland in imposing a new assault on our rights." He's right. This is part of a coordinated effort across blue states to gut the Second Amendment through the backdoor. They've learned they can't outright ban guns, so they go after specific models and features.
Here's the thing — these bans don't stop criminals. Criminals don't follow laws. They never have, and they never will. All this does is punish law-abiding citizens who just want a reliable firearm for self-defense.
