Texas Gives Hunters a Win: FireStick Tech Approved for Muzzleloader Season

April 23, 2026

Here's some good news out of Austin that should make every muzzleloader enthusiast take notice.

Texas just became the 33rd state to approve the Federal FireStick system for muzzleloader season, and that's a big deal. For those unfamiliar, FireStick lets you load muzzleloaders from the breach instead of the muzzle while still maintaining that traditional muzzleloader experience. We're talking better consistency, no double-loading accidents, and the ability to actually remove the powder charge if needed. That's safety and reliability improvements that make sense.

What I like about this is Texas letting hunters decide what tools they want to use rather than bureaucrats getting in the way. Traditions Firearms has been leading the charge on this technology with their NitroFire and the new NitroBolt bolt-action muzzleloader. If you're carrying either of these, you're already compliant in Texas and 32 other states.

The naysayers will tell you that muzzleloading needs to stay stuck in the 1800s to "count" as a primitive method. But realistic safety improvements that don't fundamentally change the nature of the sport? That's just smart regulation.

Bottom line: more states are recognizing that modern innovations can coexist with traditional hunting methods. If you're a muzzleloader dealer or customer, this trend is worth watching.
