Well, folks, here we go again. A group of House Democrats just rolled out the HEAR Act — stands for 'Help Empower Americans to Respond' — and it's exactly what you'd expect: a full-on ban on suppressors.
Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman from New Jersey is sponsoring this gem, claiming suppressors 'have no legal application' and aren't 'tools of self-defense.' That's news to the millions of American shooters who use these devices responsibly at the range. The bill would ban importation, sale, manufacturing, transfer, and possession of suppressors — and get this, there's no grandfathering clause. They'd force people to surrender what they already own through government 'buy-back' programs.
Watson Coleman isn't running for reelection, but don't celebrate too fast. She's passing the torch to another progressive who'll keep pushing this nonsense.
Now here's what really gets me: these politicians from states like New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Hawaii already ban suppressors for ordinary citizens. They're basically saying 'we know better than you' and want to impose their extremist views on the rest of the country. That's not common sense — that's a power grab.
The timing is telling too. With over 6 million suppressors now in circulation, these devices are clearly in common use. That means they're protected under the Second Amendment, period. This bill is just another example of anti-gunners exploiting fear and ignorance to chip away at our freedoms.
The good news? Under Republican control, this thing won't go anywhere. But make no mistake — the fight never ends. They'll keep trying year after year until they find a way to disarm us.
If you're a suppressor owner, now's the time to stay informed and engaged. If you don't own one yet but have been on the fence, I'd encourage you to exercise your rights before politicians make that choice for you.
