Here's another example of politicians attacking lawful businesses instead of addressing the actual problem.
A Los Angeles County Supervisor is demanding an investigation into Turner's Outdoorsman—a major California gun retailer—because a deranged individual purchased a firearm there before attempting to assassinate President Trump. Never mind that the buyer passed every background check California could throw at him. Never mind that the ATF itself calls Turner's **"meticulous"** in their record-keeping. Never mind that there's zero evidence the store did anything wrong.
The supervisor points to statistics showing Turner's locations are linked to a "disproportionate" number of crime guns. But here's what they're not telling you: Turner's sells about 20% of all firearms in California, and roughly 25% of traced crime guns came from their stores. That's nearly perfect parity for a high-volume retailer.
Straw buyers don't walk in wearing a sign. They act like normal customers. A smart criminal will naturally gravitate toward larger retailers where they're less likely to be recognized. The store can do everything by the book and still end up connected to criminals—because the bad guys broke the law, not the dealer.
This is political theater, pure and simple. Anti-gunners got caught lying about California's supposedly strict laws stopping exactly this kind of attack. Now they're deflecting by going after a store that refused to release sales where background checks came back "undetermined," even though they legally could have.
The real question: How long before your store gets scrutinized because a criminal walked through your door?
Gun retailers need to stay vigilant. Document everything. Follow the law obsessively. And don't expect politicians to have your back—even when you've done nothing wrong.
