Florida AG Joins Fight to End Under-21 Gun Ban — Finally!

October 8, 2026

Look, I've been in this business long enough to know when something good happens, and folks, this is something good.

Florida's Attorney General James Uthmeier just came out and backed the DOJ's position that the federal ban on handgun sales to adults under 21 is unconstitutional. And he's not stopping there — he's making it clear Florida's ridiculous 2018 state law that bars anyone under 21 from buying a rifle or shotgun needs to go too.

Here's the thing: you've got 18-year-olds who can sign up to defend this country, vote, and make life-altering decisions, but they can't walk into my shop and buy a handgun? That makes no sense. The DOJ finally gets it, and our own AG is on the right side of this fight.

Uthmeier has been saying for over a year now that Florida's law is unconstitutional, and he's directed his office not to defend it in court. The NRA sued back in 2018 after that awful Parkland law passed, and while the Supreme Court didn't take up the case back then, the landscape has changed. Now we've got the DOJ saying federal prohibition on under-21 handgun sales is wrong, and our AG is pushing hard for the Florida Legislature to fix this.

Governor DeSans and gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds are also on record saying they'll work to overturn this age restriction. That's the kind of leadership we need.

Is this going to change everything overnight? Not yet. The Legislature still has to act, and they've got a lot of work to do. But when you've got the DOJ, the Florida AG, the Governor, and a leading gubernatorial candidate all pushing in the same direction? That's momentum.

For those of us who've been fighting this nonsense for years, it's about time someone in Tallahassee finally started listening. If you're under 21 and looking to exercise your Second Amendment rights, the tide is turning your way.
